Porro

Salone del Mobile.
Milano| 18-23 April 2023

Porro, the renowned Italian furniture design company, showcased their latest design evolution at the Salone del Mobile 2023. Their unique approach to design combined seemingly distant elements such as architectural vision, pictorial sensitivity, and technological perfection, all while prioritizing environmental and social responsibility.

For almost a century, Porro has been evolving their design thinking, weaving a story about space that is intimately connected with its future inhabitants. Each project is a precious opportunity for knowledge and discussion, with attention to the environment and the social reality that transversally runs through a new project.

The evolution of Porro's systems

The evolution of Porro's systems is marked by thin thicknesses, movement, transparencies, and new finishings that define and articulate space with freedom. In their collections, they offer furnishings with everyday functionality and concreteness, alongside new classics with a disruptive character that you will never want to part with. The combination of these distinct notes creates an ever-changing music

Porro's latest showcase demonstrated their continued commitment to design innovation and sustainability. Their ability to pick up the threads of their design thinking, weave them together, and create furniture that is both functional and beautiful is a testament to their design philosophy. The Romby armchair is just one example of their approach to design, providing an all-encompassing solution to modern-day living spaces.

Romby Armchair

Designed by GamFratesi, 2023

One of the highlights of Porro's latest showcase was the Romby armchair, designed by GamFratesi in 2023. This armchair is the result of the transformation of the Romby chair, designed in 2020 and regarded as a Porro design manifesto object. The Romby armchair is designed for all-comprehensive use, opening up new possibilities in the home office and contract spaces.

The shapes of the upholstered shell of the Romby armchair seem to blossom, widening and rising to create armrests that release an unexpected sensation of softness and naturalness, without losing the lightness and essentiality of the original model. The truncated cone base has been replaced with four central wooden legs, providing practicality and a full suspended upper volume that seems to take flight in the name of hospitality and functionality.

The Storage system introduces a fresh take on wardrobe design and expression, with a focus on meeting diverse needs. This adaptable wardrobe system is tailored to individual preferences and can be customized to meet specific requirements. The Storage unit system enables a range of compositions to be created with ease, ensuring that it fits seamlessly into the space and ambiance where it is placed.

One of the unique features of the system is its ability to provide continuity of space throughout the entire wardrobe. Storage is the first modular system that delivers this continuous space, offering three different concepts of wardrobe structure. The innovation lies in the design of the load-bearing element, which was previously viewed as a divider within the wardrobe. However, with Storage, the side panel is no longer a barrier but instead facilitates space continuity within the wardrobe while serving its function as a load-bearing element and support for horizontal elements.

This system provides a new perspective on space within the wardrobe, and the three different types of structures available (walk-in closet, traditional wardrobe, and boiserie) can be combined perfectly to create open or closed spaces. This combination also allows for the use of various materials, including transparent and non-transparent options. Overall, Storage offers a fresh take on wardrobe design, offering versatility and adaptability to meet the needs of every individual.
